Getting Volunteers in Touch With Esperança's Work
Our January newsletter and e-news theme is resolutions. I hope you’ve received your newsletter by now and haven’t yet given up on all your resolutions. (It is unfortunately easy to watch them fall away three weeks in, isn’t it?)
Thankfully, Esperança’s resolutions are a bit easier for us to stick with. As program director, I’m asked regularly how donors can get involved with our projects. I understand the desire; unfortunately, in the past we’ve had few opportunities for volunteers other than surgical teams and clerical help. We hear you and are adjusting to meet your needs – we understand that you’d like to see your dollars at work both locally and in the developing world.
If you are interested in getting a new stamp in your passport – we are headed to Nicaragua to work on a water and housing project at the end of May-beginning of June, 2008. The trip costs $1400 or so and we hope to keep it to 10 days, including 4 days of travel. Details for the project are forthcoming. Let me know via email if you are interested.
If Nicaragua is too far to go, how about Phoenix? We do have a local project at the Golden Gate Community Center; if you live in Arizona and are interested in helping out, we have regular health fairs and other events at the center during which we could use your help.
Thank you again for your continued support. Together we’ll improve the health of more than 100,000 people in 2008!
Warm regards,
Kelli Donley, MPH
