DayTwo - Kevin Benney, Esperança’s Finance Director has lunch with 35 midwives

Victorino Centeno, AVODEC's director, led the group to a nearby restaurant for lunch before taking us to another project site. We did not know that waiting for us at the restaurant were more than 30 midwives who'd traveled hours to greet us. When we entered the small room, they applauded us and thanked us profusely for funding their training and helping make a difference in their communities.

We had the opportunity to have lunch with a group of midwives that were trained by Esperança.  They had a very warm greeting for us as they wanted to make sure we knew how appreciative they were for their training.  They were very emotional, as they knew that the skills they learned in training led directly to saved lives and they were very proud of that. One especially proud midwife excitedly proclaimed that she had attended more than 50 births and had never lost a mother or child...

Esperança is helping Jinotega with basic health needs, such as providing food, water, and shelter. The best part about it is the people are helping themselves with our assistance.  Esperança has many helpful programs, including community gardens, community wells, home construction, water filtration systems, midwife training, and public health education.
